On the day of the release of Taipei a novel by Tao Lin, I “live-tweeted” a review. One tweet response to every single page. You can read them all here on Thought Catalog:

Livetweeing Taipei by Tao Lin 1 Page @aTime

I am currently “livetweeing” Tao Lin’s newest novel, Taipei. It was released today, but I received an advanced copy so that I could compose 248 tweet responses – one for every page of the novel.

This was an unusual way for me to read a book. I was forced to focus on the book one page at a time – meaning, I had to generate a response to a single page. The single page in a novel always seemed arbitrary to me. I routinely think of a novel in “chunks” and as a whole. But this experiment really drew my attention deeper – allowing me to consider every page as a single piece of writing.

I think the end result is a lot of short responses that play off the inside jokes already within Tao Lin’s work. I hope to extend the experience of reading the novel and hopefully widen a discussion online about it in this manner.
